"Once upon a Time" Is Timeless
Wielding a sword as deftly as an embroidery needle, Mulan is unlike any other girl in China. When the emperor summons a great army, each family must send a male to fight. Tomboyish Mulan is determined to spare her aging father and bring her family honor, so she disguises herself and answers the call.
But Mulan never expects to find a friend, let alone a soul mate, in the commander of her division, Prince Jian. For all of Mulan's courage with a bow and arrow, is she brave enough to share her true identity and feelings with Prince Jian?

This is the first book from my "Read a Book a Page" challenge.

If you pretend Mulan is not a child, it's not so disturbing. That is how I will present this review. It follows the idea that a 14-15 year old is not getting married to a 20-something year old.

I love Mulan. She is without a doubt the best Disney Princess. The Ballad of Mulan is a beautiful poem. That's why I bought this. But this is just not that good. There is way too much back story. The book is 200 pages and she doesn't leave for the army until after page 100. There was too much talking instead of showing. And the action lasted 2ish pages Mulan is a total Mary Sue. She is good at EVERYTHING and EVERYONE loves her. I did like that the stepmother isn't an evil witch. She genuinely cares for Mulan and Mulan cares for her.

It all comes down to the fact that this book was boring, rushed, and cliche. This book didn't feel like it was authentic. If it had been longer it would have been better. Maybe. I so wanted to like this. I am now off to watch the real Mulan.

Final Feeling:

P.S: I thought about giving this to my friend who is a middle school teacher for her classroom library because this is aimed at a young audience. However I don't want young reading a book where the protagonist is about their age marrying a man in his 20s.Miranda @ The Lonely Bookshelfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15031730020807302108noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6140882734639236455.post-89234995662055786252014-05-12T09:00:00.000-04:002014-05-12T09:00:07.977-04:00Book Review: Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye WellsRating: 5 Stars

This is only the third book I've read this year. College is kicking my ass. Anyway, I loved this book!

Sabina, Adam, and Giguhl are charged with getting Maisie back from Lavinia. Much to Sabina's chagrin they are forced to except help from a human voodoo master and an gay/trans fairy.

The book is full of action. And not like shitty thrown in there for shits and gigs action. True, edge of your seat action with a purpose action. I really missed reading interesting books!

Sabina is much more tolerable. I must admit I've always liked Sabina. But she is growing into herself and it makes me so happy for her. Being a person she does make mistakes but she is getting better at not going all guns blazing and fucking shit up. She does fuck shit up, but I said she's getting better. This relates in her allowing her relationship with Adam to progress. There were no jokes at her expense.

I literally can not think of one thing I didn't like about this book. Sadly I've read that the next two go down the shitter.

A book about love as seen by the ancients, Eros is Anne Carson's exploration of the concept of "eros" in both classical philosophy and literature. Beginning with: "It was Sappho who first called eros 'bittersweet.' No one who has been in love disputes her. What does the word mean?", Carson examines her subject from numerous points of view and styles, transcending the constraints of the scholarly exercise for an evocative and lyrical meditation in the tradition of William Carlos William's Spring and All and William H. Gass's On Being Blue.

I can't remember when or how I cam across this. It's not strictly a book. It's essays written in poetry. Long love poetry that is 189 pages. It was published in 1998. And I want it. Carson explores the Greek view of Eros, or desire. I don't typically like poetry so I am a little nervous spending so much money on it. But I feel like it's one of those things I just have to try.

5 Minute Reviews are just what they sound like. I take 5 minutes and jot out my feelings about the book, whether it's because I don't have time for a full on review or because I don't have a lot to say. Let's get started.

Like:
Duval: He's the main squeeze. Not a jerk! Love him. (Is it sad that that's all it takes for me to like a YA male character. Sigh. Authors, quit making boys into jerks!)
Plot: A little predictable but sill enjoyable.
Setting: It's built up well.
Sex: A YA book that acknowledges sex is a thing!
Cover: What is it about a girl in a red dress that drives me mad?
THERE IS NO LOVE TRIANGLE!!

Didn't Like:
Ismae: It's not that she's unlikable. It's more that she's kind of boring. Sad.
Why they have sex: Really? Really? That's the big mystery? MMhm.
Pacing: Parts of the book are real drags.
"Womanly Charms": I get it. Please quit saying it.
Duval's Mother: That was fixed/dropped pretty fast. Not impressed.

Finally: Sybella's story is the next one and I really want to read it!Miranda @ The Lonely Bookshelfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15031730020807302108noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6140882734639236455.post-43839123211736005642013-09-04T10:00:00.000-04:002013-09-04T10:00:00.280-04:00Wishlist Wednesday

In the years before the First World War, the great European powers were ruled by three first cousins: King George V of Britain, Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Together, they presided over the last years of dynastic Europe and the outbreak of the most destructive war the world had ever seen, a war that set twentieth-century Europe on course to be the most violent continent in the history of the world.

Through brilliant and often darkly comic portraits of these men and their lives, their foibles and obsessions, Miranda Carter delivers the tragicomic story of Europe’s early twentieth-century aristocracy, a solipsistic world preposterously out of kilter with its times.

This book was given to be by Tena via RAK. Thank you so much!

At first I debated and debated on whether or not I wanted to read this book. No sooner than I decide I would give it a try, Tena sent it to me! This book book had the potential to be a favorite. I can see it under its surface. However it fell a little flat.

What I Liked:
It was entertaining. I enjoyed elements of the plot. And while it was predictable and stiff in some parts, I still liked it. For the most part the pacing was adequate.

It got my attention in the beginning. The book starts off with a great hook. Finley works for a family whose son is notorious for assaulting women. That night Finley catches his eye. He starts to assault her and her inner demon comes out to save her. She flees and gets ran over by my favorite man, Griff.

No instalove. Thank you! The characters in this book are not in love. They are attracted to each other. But things develop slowly. And granted most of their thoughts for each other are lustful. But it has a natural progression of feelings. Their relationship doesn't feel forced.

The humor. Cross kind of pokes fun at her book. Finley uhgs at Emily's love triangle, when she herself is in one. Sam mentions how perfect Finley is and he wouldn't be surprised if wings grew out of her butt.

Beautiful cover. I can't resist a red dress.

Writing. I am not the kind of person that likes long, drawn out descriptions. Give me what I need and move on. There is little purple prose in this book. (But there is a lot of telling instead of showing.)

Finley is a great name.

Multiple POVs. I usually do not like multiple POVs. Often books with multiple POVs annoy me. But it works here. The change in POVs is smooth. And it adds more to the story.

Griffin is not a jerk. Many books have the love interest who is a complete asshole or a creep. But for some ungodly reason the MC falls for him anyway. (cough Jack Dandy cough) Griffin is not that man.

Didn't Like:
The book is romance. Until it's not. Steampunk. Until it's not. Historical. Until it's not. The genres happen in parts. Not in one cohesive package.

The steel corset wasn't a big part of the story. It was more like a blip. It's introduced halfway through the novel and then mentioned again in the final battle.

Shallowness in plot and characters. While the story starts off fast it does loses it's steam pretty fast. The characters are flat and one-dimensional with cardboard personalities that we have seen before. And while I did enjoy the plot and the action, it could have been better. There could have been more mystery. There was little suspense.

Sam. I hate him. He is a horrible character who does not deserve Emily. She is the character that falls for the jerk character.

Finley needed more. She is out main character. This is supposed to be her story! We need more of her background and family to be explored more. Her father was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! And what about her personality? She herself barely has one. It's inner demon Finley that has character depth.

Love triangle. Jack Dandy could have easily been written out without much change to the story.

Overall:
Even with some of the negatice aspects, I enjoyed the book.
Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries

Loyal readers of the monthly "Universe" essays in Natural History magazine have long recognized Neil deGrasse Tyson's talent for guiding them through the mysteries of the cosmos with stunning clarity and almost childlike enthusiasm. Here, Tyson compiles his favorite essays across a myriad of cosmic topics. The title essay introduces readers to the physics of black holes by explaining the gory details of what would happen to your body if you fell into one. "Holy Wars" examines the needless friction between science and religion in the context of historical conflicts. "The Search for Life in the Universe" explores astral life from the frontiers of astrobiology. And "Hollywood Nights" assails the movie industry's feeble efforts to get its night skies right.

Known for his ability to blend content, accessibility, and humor, Tyson is a natural teacher who simplifies some of the most complex concepts in astrophysics while simultaneously sharing his infectious excitement about our universe.

It's Neil deGrasse Tyson. Who wouldn't want to read this?

For those of you who don't know, I suffer from depression. This past year it has gotten worse. My feelings of uselessness, hopelessness, and despair were out of control. Living got harder than it had ever been before. The suicidal thoughts got to a point where I was planning to act on them. Before this year reading was an escape. A way to get away from my feelings that drown me. But reading stopped being enjoyable. It became a chore. I tried and tried to get interested in reading but I couldn't. I have had depression for many years but it had never got to the point that reading was dreadful. And when I did read books I just wasn't up for reviewing them. Or even talking about them with friends.

While I still have suicidal thoughts on an almost daily basis, I'm getting help. I still have these thoughts and feelings but I am slowly getting better. I read a book! I wrote notes on that book! I am deciphering those notes to write a review!

I hope you guys are doing well.

Love,

In Strange Angels, Dru Anderson has what her grandmother called “the touch.” (Comes in handy when you’re traveling from town to town with your dad, hunting ghosts, suckers, wulfen, and the occasional zombie.) Then her dad turns up dead—but still walking—and Dru knows she’s next. Even worse, she’s got two guys hungry for her affections, and they’re not about to let the fiercely independent Dru go it alone. Will Dru discover just how special she really is before coming face-to-fang with whatever—or whoever— is hunting her?

This book has a lot of mixed reviews. But it puts me to mind of one of my favorite shows, Supernatural. Except Dru's a teenage girl not two grown men. Therefore I need it.

A Country of Vast Designs: James K. Polk, the Mexican War and the Conquest of the American Continent
by Robert W. Merry

Summary from Goodreads:

When James K. Polk was elected president in 1844, the United States was locked in a bitter diplomatic struggle with Britain over the rich lands of the Oregon Territory, which included what is now Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Texas, not yet part of the Union, was threatened by a more powerful Mexico. And the territories north and west of Texas -- what would become California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and part of Colorado -- belonged to Mexico. When Polk relinquished office four years later, the country had grown by more than a third as all these lands were added. The continental United States, as we know it today, was established -- facing two oceans and positioned to dominate both.

In a one-term presidency, Polk completed the story of America's Manifest Destiny -- extending its territory across the continent, from sea to sea, by threatening England and manufacturing a controversial and unpopular two-year war with Mexico that Abraham Lincoln, in Congress at the time, opposed as preemptive.

Robert Merry tells this story through powerful debates and towering figures -- the outgoing President John Tyler and Polk's great mentor, Andrew Jackson; his defeated Whig opponent, Henry Clay; two famous generals, Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott; Secretary of State James Buchanan (who would precede Lincoln as president); Senate giants Thomas Hart Benton and Lewis Cass; Daniel Webster and John C. Calhoun; and ex-president Martin Van Buren, like Polk a Jackson protégé but now a Polk rival.

This was a time of tremendous clashing forces. A surging antislavery sentiment was at the center of the territorial fight. The struggle between a slave-owning South and an opposing North was leading inexorably to Civil War. In a gripping narrative, Robert Merry illuminates a crucial epoch in U.S. history.

I love history. In fact I am going to school to become a History teacher. I have a personal goal to read at least one biography or autobiography about most of the presidents. James K. Polk is one of my favorite president. Maybe it's because Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide school was named after him. Maybe it's because when we learned about him in class I found him really interesting. Whatever the reason I really want to read this book.

I remember seeing some TBR posts. With my best friend google, I realize my favorite book blogger Misty from The Book Rat had a "TBR Tuesday" type deal. Sweet.

First up in my TBR pile is:

The Stand The Complete and Uncut Edition
by Stephen King
Summary from Goodreads

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death.

And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides -- or are chosen. A world in which good rides on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail -- and the worst nightmares of evil are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the dark man.

In 1978 Stephen King published The Stand, the novel that is now considered to be one of his finest works.
The Complete And Uncut Edition includes more than five hundred pages of material previously deleted, along with new material that King added as he reworked the manuscript for a new generation. It gives us new characters and endows familiar ones with new depths. It has a new beginning and a new ending. What emerges is a gripping work with the scope and moral complexity of a true epic.

For hundreds of thousands of fans who read The Stand in its original version and wanted more, this new edition is Stephen King's gift. And those who are reading The Stand for the first time will discover a triumphant and eerily plausible work of the imagination that takes on the issues that will determine our survival.

I don't think I will even ever start this book. The uncut version has 1153 pages! It's so intimidating. But it is supposed to be a very good book. Until I can get over it's length it will sit and wait for my on my shelf. Or it will stay there until my Nana realizes I still have it.Miranda @ The Lonely Bookshelfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15031730020807302108noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6140882734639236455.post-50517439991354399982013-02-28T10:00:00.000-05:002013-02-28T12:09:25.873-05:00Review: Foretold by Jana Oliver

In FORETOLD, the fourth Demon Trappers novel by Jana Oliver, Riley faces the final battle for humanity and Beck's heart—and Hell is the least of her problems

Now that Riley’s managed to (just barely) fend off Armageddon, everything’s changed. Well . . . most things. After their passionate kiss before the big battle in the cemetery, Beck is back to treating her like a little girl, as if nothing ever happened. While she’d love to just tell him off and move on, Riley vowed to take care of Beck the way he’s taken care of her since her father’s death—but she’s about to get a whole lot more than she bargained for. When she’s commissioned to go with Beck to his hometown and help him care for his dying mother, they stumble too close to a dark and murderous secret, one that Beck fears will drive Riley away from him forever. As chaos breaks loose, Riley may be Beck's only hope for redemption . . . and survival.

Meanwhile, up in Atlanta, it’s quickly becoming clear that Heaven may have won a battle, but the war is far from over. Riley and Beck face a stormy future, as Lucifer's ex-right-hand-man, Sartael, proves himself to be more resilient than anyone thought. He has Atlanta in his grip and is about to begin a brutal war with the prince of Hell. As the seconds tick down toward a final confrontation, it's up to Riley and the man she loves to finally defeat their old enemy, or lose everything they've fought for.

I was so excited when I got this book. Sadly I ended being let down. The 3 star rating is VERY generous.

The book is actually two different stories crudely glued together with Elmers's.

The first part is my favorite. It does not fit at all into the series but it was the most interesting. We finally get to see more about Beck's past when he goes back to his hometown. It's exiting. I read through this part super fast. It didn't lag and answered questions I had about Beck. First part of book gets 3 stars.

The latter half of the book is super boring. Me while reading most of this part:

It's a rehash of the third book. It took me forever to get through this part. None of it was interesting and I almost gave up. There was a big epic battle at the end that sucked. Riley is a damsel in distress in the battle to make Beck look better. And it was so boring. I was 100% done with everyone at this point. I was done with Riley and Beck. They suddenly have NO chemistry! Stewart was annoying me. Lucifer and Satrael and Ori were disappointing. Uhg. I am so glad it's over. There was other pointless subplots in the book but I don't have the energy to remember them or write about them.

Plus plus also and what the hell was the point in Ori taking Riley's abusive ex to hell? That should have been left out. It had no fucking point. We don't see him again.
It had been three weeks, four days and twelve hours since I’d seen her. Since she’d torn my heart out. If I had been drinking, I’d blame it on the alcohol. It was her. She was actually here.
Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it's that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting--or stealing--whatever they want. No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale's family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother's billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there's no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won't let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother's will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company's fortune. So instead of being the heir--this time, Hale might be the mark. Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she's willing to save her boyfriend's company if it means losing the boy.

Review:

When I got this for my Kindle I was looking for something cheap, entertaining, and quick to read. I saw this review from Reading, Eating, and Dreaming and decided to get it. And I am so glad I did!

It starts with Blaire going to live with her father (who abandoned her 5 years earlier) after her mother died from cancer. When she gets to the house there's a party going on and her father is not there. It turns out that Rush, her new step-brother, owns the house and her father went away to Paris with his wife.

From here Rush totally Harry Potters this poor girl. She has to sleep in the "room" under the stairs and he's a major asshat to her. But Rush starts being less assholey and he and Blaire learn more about each other. They have some cute moments, share kisses, and have some sexy times. But shit hits the fan. Unfortunately there's a big secret to why Rush ignored her and why he tried to stay away from her. Plus his sister Nan, totally hates. I mean straight up she despises her. When the big secret is revealed I was a bit floored. I thought the secret was that Nan and Blaire had the same mother and that their mother didn't want Nan.

This is actually a pretty good book. But I do have a few problems with it. For one they fell in love super quickly. For two Rush is still kind of an ass. Finally there wasn't a lot of emotional depth. I felt almost nothing for her mother's death, or her sister's, or the fact that her dad left her. Their was no memories of these and Blaire doesn't really express how she feels about them in a concrete way other than "Oh sometimes I hate my father." or "I miss my mom and sister." I needed more here. I needed something I could grab onto to help me feel what she feels.

Plus there's the ending! I have to wait until March to see what happens between them. I can't wait that long.
But I've been having personal issues. I have clinical depression. My posting is sporadic at best. You can see that sometimes I don't post for months. That's because that's when it's the worst. If you know about it or have it you know that it can really mess up your life. Sometimes breathing is hard enough to do in a day let alone read and plan a book blog. So I just really want to say I am extremely sorry for my lack of posts. I'm going to try harder. I won't feel this hopeless forever and when I finally start to emerge again I know I will do better. Until that time I ask you to be patient and forgiving.Miranda @ The Lonely Bookshelfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15031730020807302108noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6140882734639236455.post-59279880554257166452012-10-10T09:30:00.000-04:002012-10-10T09:30:00.758-04:00Wishlist Wednesday

by Dominique Moceanu, Paul Williams, Teri Williams

Summary from Goodreads:

AT FOURTEEN YEARS OLD, Dominique Moceanu was the youngest member of the 1996 U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics team, the first and only American women’s team to take gold at the Olympics. Her pixyish appearance and ferocious competitive drive quickly earned her the status of media darling. But behind the fame, the flawless floor routines, and the million-dollar smile, her life was a series of challenges and hardships. Off Balance vividly delineates each of the dominating characters who contributed to Moceanu’s rise to the top, from her stubborn father and long-suffering mother to her mercurial coach, Bela Karolyi. Here, Moceanu finally shares the haunting stories of competition, her years of hiding injuries and pain out of fear of retribution from her coaches, and how she hit rock bottom after a public battle with her parents.

But medals, murder plots, drugs, and daring escapes aside (all of which figure into Moceanu’s incredible journey), the most unique aspect of her life is the family secret that Moceanu discovers, opening a new and unexpected chapter in her adult life. A mysterious letter from a stranger reveals that she has a second sister—born with a physical disability and given away at birth—who has nonetheless followed in Moceanu’s footsteps in an astonishing way.

A multilayered memoir that transcends the world of sports, Off Balance will touch anyone who has ever dared to dream of a better life.

Dominique has been my idol since I was three. My mom tells me I saw her perform on balance beam and started doing flips on the couch. I really want to read about her life from her perspective.

Summary from Goodreads:

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

I have wanted to read Angelfall for a very long time. But it’s just never happened. Then a friend let me borrow it (along with about 30 other books). I am so glad I got to read it that I am going to buy a physical version for myself.

Excuse me for the not so awesome review. I just love this book and no matter what I say it doesn't give it justice.

General:

I love Penryn’s name.

I enjoy this writing style. It’s short and to the point. It doesn’t take a page to describe a curtain with flowery, useless prose. It gives me exactly what I need and moves on. Plus the pacing is perfect. No dull moments but it's also not obnoxiously action packed.

The love story. Oh god it’s great! I love the relationship between Raffe and Penryn. It builds. They don’t see each other and fall hopelessly in love. Penryn sees him and realeases she can use him for her benefit. Through getting to know each other they fall for each other. Perfect.

Which brings me to my next point. Penryn is amazing. She is the perfect heroine. She’s a butt kicking survivor that has depth. She is not a shallow pool of a character that we’ve all seen authors turn this type of character into. Reading from her point of view is great too. I typically don’t like first person as many characters’ voices drive me ape shit crazy. But not her. She’s not annoying or stupid. I don’t find myself rolling my eyes or yelling at dumb mistakes like I do with most “badass” heroines. Being in her head was a pleasant reading experience.

Raffe is a great hero. He also isn’t a shallow pool character. He could have also been stereotyped into the cocky smart ass character we have all seen before. But luckily he isn’t and I can’t help but like him and ship the hell out of him and Penryn.

I love this story. It is so addicting. I honestly found it hard to put it down. You have to read this book! I should warn you that some people might find aspects of it very out there. But don’t let that stop you from reading it. It is brilliantly written and exciting. There is never a dull moment. My hat goes off to you Susan.

Ok so this book is supposedly out but when you try to buy it online you can't and you have to pre-order the one with the other cover. I don't like the other cover. It doesn't fit the series like this one does. What I do know is that I can't freaking wait for this book. I need to know how it ends!Miranda @ The Lonely Bookshelfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15031730020807302108noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6140882734639236455.post-19018255651052894052012-09-20T11:00:00.000-04:002012-09-20T11:00:08.267-04:00More of a Rant Than A Review: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa Rating: 1.5

Pretty much everything I hate about a book is in this book. And not done well. If the book is good I can deal with those, this book is not. The overall high rating on this book honestly surprises me. The writing style is done in a way I detest. You don't need 15 words to describe a normal tree. It's overly flowery and so annoying. I skipped so many paragraphs and pages because it was too much.

1.First and foremost we have the love triangle. Ah YA books and love triangles go together like milk and Pepsi. You don't want it, yet it's infamous. I hate this stupid overdone plot device. Stop it. Right now.

2. Second is the Evil Witches. They suck. Neither get any development and they both aren't interesting. Which I can see for Mab because it's the first book. But Titaian? Please. She's about as frightening as a corgi. You know what, pretty much everyone's characterization sucked.

3. Holy crap Meghan is a complete idiot. There is no other way to put it. When someone tells you not to make deals or say thank you in a world you're not accustomed to you do it. But not Meghan. She makes deals with EVERYBODY. And the one time she tried to be clever is the one time she shouldn't have. There are other instances too but the book sucked and I quit taking notes on her idiocracy.

4. If she wasn't getting rescued every other page than I am a monkey's uncle.

5. Hey I love a good smart ass. But Ash and Puck suck at it. They aren't smart or funny. They are just lame and annoying.

6. This speaks for itself.

7. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Whatever. I feel like the author kill Puck later on anyway.

8. Oh my God. Well it wasn't instalove. But Meghan and Ash have no chemistry. At all. They might as well be trees on opposite sides of a forest. I think I would have preferred instalove.

9. I'm mainly talking about the ending.

I am so glad I didn't pay for this book. It was almost a DNF but I bargained with myself that if I could just finish this book than I got to reread The Gallagher Girls Series.
Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby is a teenage grim reaper with the bizarre ability to damn souls. That makes her pretty scary, even to fellow Grims. To escape the townspeople’s wrath, she and her friends embark on a wild road trip to DeMyse.
